WIP ~ Fiber Sculpture ~ Day Six

Back at it and it is coming along beautiful.  The tubes are attached and I have begun to cut the strips of fabric that will be used to cover them.  Here are some pics....

These tubes are made of buckrum (which is used to make hats) and filled with poly fill.  They are hand sewn on so that they will be stable and secure.

This fabric will be stitched together and attached to the tube.

This will give you an idea of how colorful this will be!  After I attach the fabric to the tubes, I will cover the fabric with a product called "Stiffy".  Which is a fabric stiffener.  This will allow me to shape it to the tubes.  Then I will, above these tubes, start attaching the handmade paper that I have already shown you.

Have a magical and blessed day!

Random Tuesday....Really?

randomtuesday

Well it is time again for total randomness!  Make sure and visit The UnMom , Keeley!  She always has interesting tidbits.

As for me...well...we will see!!!

Went to my granddaughters' graduation Friday night!  Winds were 50 + MPH!!!  Talk about dust storms.  OMG!!   And the worst ever bad hair day!!!

We originally planned a tail gate party for before.  But the wind made it hard to hang on to the sandwiches.  And the parking attendants insisted on parking cars all around us!  And extremely close!!!  We knew we would never get out!!  We found our seats and again...CONCRETE!  Numb butt alert!

Spent the weekend at LaQuinta.  They sure have comfortable beds and a great "free" breakfast!  But their coffee is the worst ever.  Thankfully, McD's is close!

We have a Toyota T-100 and we purchased her in 1994!!  She has 276,000 miles!  And runs like a champ.  So we took her in for her 220,000 mile check up and they went over her with a fine tooth comb.  Then we got the bill.......$1100.00!!  OMG!!  Cheaper than a new car...but still!!!!

Yesterday was pamper me day!  Well, morning as least.  I went into town and got a manicure and pedicure.  Ahhhh!  So relaxing!  When you get your pedicure, they put you in a massage chair and it automatically gives you a neck and back massage.  Talk about relax and be pampered.  This is it!!!

Spent the rest of the day working on the fiber sculpture.  Pictures tomorrow!!  It is looking good!

Can we talk about the oil spill...or should we say...OIL GUSHER!!  My heart is sick about it.  How could this happen?!  And no one can seem to figure out how to stop it!  The death and devastation will be catastrophic.  And all they can do is point fingers at each other!  WTH??!!  Come on government and BP...quit with the games and work together to get this thing stopped and cleaned up!  Seriously...!!!

Watch CBS News Videos Online

Well enough randomness for this Tuesday!  Have a magical and blessed day.  Pray for the clean up!!

WIP ~ Fiber Sculpture ~ Day Five

Here it is Day Five and I have glued down the fabric onto the canvas and adhered handmade paper to the canvas as well.  I have some nice rich colors going on.

Now I have to add the tubes over this...that will make sense when I show the next series of photos!  I need an assistant to help me with that procedure.  Oh Dr. John????

And remember!  This is only canvas one!  Canvas two will have the same texture on the bottom as this one...but different colors on the rest of it.

Hope you enjoy this process!

Have a magical and blessed day!

Went to daughter-in-laws graduation last Friday.  Congrats hun!!!!  She graduated Suma Cum Laude!!!  It was held outdoors in an amphitheater complete with concrete seats.  My butt is still numb!!!  And windy!!!!  Ate sand the rest of the evening!

This is the close up I got of her...she will love it!!!!!

Doll show Saturday!  Stood on concrete for 7 hours!  Sheesh!  Numb butt and sore back and legs!  It is a bitch getting old!!!!

My helper!  Isn't he cute??

Sold two dolls at the show and received two custom orders!!  Woohoo!  I call that a win win!!

I am really stoked!  I lost three more pounds!!!  That makes 138 lbs lost!  Just call me the shrinking lady!  And I will love you forever!  This walking almost every day is panning out!  Gotta love it!!

The Vampire Stories is a three book series that I am reading right now.  I will let you know what I think of them. So far...good!!  I am also a fan of the Twilight series.  My granddaughters got me into this vampire thingy.  I have really been enjoying these books.

Lisa and Georgia...the oldest granddaughter and the youngest!  We went out to eat after the graduation!

Lisa and the next oldest granddaughter, Cassie!!  Gorgeous girls!!

Well I think I have covered you with enough stuff!  Going to take my numb butt and find some breakfast!  Coffee would be good right now too.  Oh Dr. Johnnnnnn!!  Coffee ready yet??

Amazing Art!

Just had to share!!

U-Ram Choe
New Urban Species
February 19–May 16, 2010

Korean artist U-Ram Choe’s kinetic sculptures are made of delicately curved sections of wrought metal, joined together in movable parts that are driven by motors to expand, contract, or otherwise suggest the autonomic motions of such primitive life forms as plants and single-celled aquatic creatures. The intricate workmanship and graceful movements of these mechanical sculptures offer viewers an unparalleled visual delight. At the same time, they have profound philosophical implications, inviting consideration of the subject of life’s origins, evolution, and future. Evoking new developments in genetic engineering, prosthetic technologies, and robotics, these graceful and disturbing works propose the existence of species that, while constructed of inorganic materials and powered by light and electricity, mimic the behavior and appetites of living beings.

Appropriately alluding to the methodologies of biologists or botanists from the Age of Discovery, Choe uses a Latin nomenclature in titling his creatures, and provides detailed pseudo-scientific descriptions of their habitats and behaviors. This allusion to a system of taxonomy that reached its height in the nineteenth century aligns with the works’ evocations of early science fiction—Jules Verne’s fishlike Nautilus submarine, for example. The charm of yesterday’s seemingly organic automata gives way to a chill accompanying the uncanny recognition that today, botanical or animal hybrids are under development by scientists who are less concerned with the unintended consequences of manipulating nature than with expanding the boundaries of life.

About the artist:

Born in 1970, U-Ram Choe lives in Seoul, Korea. He has had solo exhibitions at The Crow Collection of Asian Art in Dallas, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan, and bitforms gallery in New York. His work also has been exhibited at the Shanghai Biennale, Seoul Museum of Art, Samsung Museum, Sungkok Art Museum, Busan's Metropolitan Art Museum, Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna, Seoul Olympic Art Museum, and Seoul Forest Open Air Sculpture Symposium. Choe’s works are in the Crow Collection, Sungkok Art Museum, and the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Bologna, and the Manchester Art Gallery.

Copied from the Frist Center for Visual Arts!! And from MB Shaw at The Common Denominator .  Check her out.  Great blog!!!

Amazing work..almost Steampunk like!!  Enjoy!

Silent Saturday ~ Part Fifteen

As I sat working on a painting; Dr. John walked in carrying the most beautiful bouquets of flowers.  One for me and one for the neighbors mom (Louis is 96!).  What a wonderful surprise for Mother's Day!  He is so sweet and thoughtful!

We immediately began taking pictures of them especially since Louise's was going to her house soon.   This is our pics.  Enjoy the flowers!!

Perfection is a Rose by Raymond A. Foss

A red, red rose,
posing in the vase on the counter
a reminder of the beauty of summer
of the smell of a full bouquet
the effortless, flawlessness
the perfection of a rose
supple petals, thorns to protect
even color, deep burgundy red
rich saturation of red
soothing red, passionate red
enshrined in the bloom
the bud opening in its glory
look at me!

Have a magical and blessed weekend!

Art and passion ~ pieces I create

These are works I haven't shared before and I thought that you would enjoy them.  I love to work with color and texture.  The more texture, the better I like it.  And of course, they is some bling too.  Can never have too much bling.

The mediums used on these pieces are acrylics, pastels, handmade paper, wood, beads, India ink, twine, copper wire, brass tacks, vintage charms, and gold cording.  These pieces were completed during that last two years.  So they are fairly new.

Hope you enjoyed viewing them!  Have a fabulous weekend!!
