Random Tuesday....It's traveling time!!

Coming to you live from the birth place of Abraham Lincoln...Springfield, Illinois!!  It is beautiful and so hot!!
95 degrees and with humidity....105 degrees!  But this has not prevented us from enjoying the sights and partaking of the food!!  Ha!

Starting with Charlie Parkers' diner...cute, small and off the beaten path!  Known for it's breakfasts and 16 inch pancakes!!  Wowzers!  Food was so good!!

niece Jennifer and Dr. John

Our tour guide, our niece, Jennifer...was excellent!    The next stop was the Springfield Botanical Garden known as Washington Park!

I could go on and on with the beauty of the park!  Gorgeous!!

Then we were off to Abraham Lincoln's Museum!  Oh my!  What a fabulous presidential museum.  With holographic theaters and many fabulous artifacts.  The letters were amazing.  We had a terrific time.

Lincoln as a boy

All the life size sculptures were silicone vinyl and so life like!  Amazing workmanship!  This was a fantastic museum...I highly recommend you all going there.  Worth the visit for sure!!

Outside the museum was a beautiful square right in the heart of downtown!!  Complete with a refurbished train depot!

Today we had lunch at Steak and Shake...oh my!  Yummy!!!

Dr. John

It was your classic diner with really tasty hamburgers (old-fashioned) and creamy thick milk shakes!!

We are staying at the Crown Plaza.  Fabulous hotel off of US 72 in Springfield!!  It has 14 floors and we are on the 7th.  View from the top (which is also where the pool is)!

I know I have Randomed the heck out of you today!!  Ha!!  Don't forget to visit Stacy and Stacy Uncorked and see the other Randomizers are up too!!  We are still carrying on the Random Tuesday banner since Keely of The UnMom is still on hiatus!!  Come back Keely...we are missing you!!!!!!

Have a magical and blessed day!
Hugging you

What a great trip! The museum alone would have been enough for me, but I'm so happy you took us along to these other spots.

That diner is one of a dying breed.. there was a story just last night on our local news about one of these classic places in danger of closing...rising costs of supplies and rent are forcing the owners to either raise their own prices or shut down. We lost our little diner earlier this year...it was called Stratton's, and Mr. Stratton himself still came around to greet everyone personally at every meal. Lots of memorabilia on the walls, a real jukebox...sigh. Stratton's opened in the 50's and never changed...until Walgreen's came around with an offer too good to refuse. What a shame.

Okay, those pancakes...! Are they meant to be shared by everyone at the table?

I stayed at the Crown Plaza when I took my kids through Springfield a few years ago. I don't recall all the statues outside. I do recall that going down the hallway to his tomb kind of creeped me out. The long walk - Lions, tigers and bears, oh my.

Back in the corner where the tombs ewar made me think I want to be in sunshine.

I thoroughly enjoyed his house while a statesman.

Great tribute to a great president, though. Glad you are showing this, so other will attend. Well worth it.

I can see you enjoyed yourselves.
Lovely pictures.

The town sure knows how to create opportunities for taking pictures with the great man.
