Mind Wide Open ~ April

It is that time again!  Gail Schmidt's  Mind Wide Open Challenge.  This is the image she gave us to use as our source or beginning piece if you will.

And the word for this competition is "magical".  Isn't it a wonderful print?  It says magical already I think.  Anyway...I did two pieces.  The first piece is this one...

The second piece and the one I entered is this one....

She was born with an aura surrounding her.  And a peace that went beyond understanding.  Just being close to her gave you such a feeling of well being.
As she grew, so did her powers.  Many feared this would change her and make her arrogant and mean like so many of her kind.  They used their powers to control and manipulate others against their will.  Many were afraid of them...of her!!
But Mattie was unique and she just glowed.  She radiated peace and love and joy.  Anyone approaching her could feel that power emanating from her and were usually driven to their knees.  This puzzled her as she was so young.  She had no idea of the power she held.  Those like her were jealous and sought to destroy her before she grew fully into her powers.
Mattie loved life and just wanted to play.  She was blissfully unaware of the politics surrounding her and the danger she was in.
It was a cool evening and Mattie was sound asleep...dreaming of playing with her favorite toys.  They came quietly with malice in their hearts.  Tonight they would be rid of this child once and for all.  Slowly they approached her bed.  Careful not to make a sound.  The three of them looked upon her face and were taken aback at her glowing countenance.  But they were determined and pulled out a knife.  As they plunged the knife towards the child...lightening struck the blade.  The blade melted in their hands and burned them badly.  A scream emanated from their lips and the one burned the worse started sobbing.
Guards rushed in and slew the three wizards where they stood!  Mattie never woke up.  The nanny's and the guards checked the sleeping child and saw only joy and peace radiating from her face.  She slept on.
Rumors flew around the village of the sleeping child and the lightening.  Many talked of the wizards hand being covered in molten metal and speculated as to what that was.  The three wizards never got a chance to tell their tale.  They were slain where they stood...gaping at the glowing child.
They should have known that Mattie was special for she came to them without parents.  Without relatives of any kind.  She just appeared one day outside the castle in a basket.  No note and no one around.  They should have known.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story....And check out Mind Wide Open on the 11th for voting and to see the other entries.

Have a magical and blessed day!
Hugging you
SueAnn
